Mandarin athlete Brysen Wright has made his college decision official. In front of a packed auditorium on Thursday afternoon, the junior five-star committed to the University of Miami. The verbal commitment is non-binding and won’t tie him to the Hurricanes until he’s able to sign a national letter of intent. Players in the Class of 2027 can sign from Dec. 2-4. Wright will reclassify as part of his commitment. Wright, 16, is a 6-4, 205-pound junior. He’s one of the most visible and recognized athletes in the modern era, thanks in part to a robust social media presence, and viral highlights at both the flag and 7-on level. Wright has been truly the area’s first NIL superstar. He was the first known local player to sign an NIL deal with a sports card company last year (he signed a five-figure deal with Wild Card) and wound up having a signature cleat released by Battle Sports last August. Wright’s commitment takes the suspense out of the biggest blue chip locally on the recruiting board.
