Heavy rain brought nuisance flooding to parts of Jacksonville, including the Mixontown neighborhood near McCoy’s Creek, but people who work in the area said conditions appeared better than in past storms.The neighborhood runs parallel to the creek, which has flooded nearby roads for years. In July 2021, several people were rescued from flooded roads along McCoy’s Creek Boulevard, about a month after the creek restoration project began. The project is now complete.During the latest rainfall, water blocked some roads and forced drivers to turn around. Workers in the area told News4JAX the flooding was an improvement over what they had seen before.The National Weather Service reported as much as 11 inches of rain near Mayport in the previous 72 hours, with 8 inches near Jacksonville Beach and Phillips Highway and Sunbeam Road.Duval County Emergency Preparedness Division Director Andre Ayoub said officials expected about 2 to 5 inches of rain over the coming week.
